2019 Best New Food Product Contest

The Hawaiian Airlines Made in Maui County Festival (MIMCF) proudly announces the “Best New Food Product Contest sponsored by Minit Stop.” This award recognizes distinguished achievement in the introduction, development, and marketing of new food products. This contest also reinforces MIMCF’s overall mission to help grow our islands’ local businesses and economy.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO ENTER

  • Entrant must be a confirmed 2019 Hawaiian Airlines Made in Maui County Festival food product or food truck vendor.

  • Packaged food and/or beverage product is either new and/or has been on the market for less than three (3) years. Product can also be a new flavor.

  • Food product must meet MIMCF’s 51% made-in-Maui-County product valuation, which is required for all products being sold at this annual event.

  • Food product must be produced in a certified kitchen.

  • Food product must be packaged and properly labeled with the name of the product, manufacturer, net weight, location product is made, and ingredients.

  • Food product must be intended for human consumption.


CONTEST RULES

  • Cost to enter: $50 for EACH product entry.

  • No limit on how many food/beverage product entries a company can submit.

  • ONE (1) product entry will be selected the winner of this year’s contest.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES:

  • A completed contest entry form and payment must be received by Fri., October 11, 2019, 4:30 pm.

  • To pay for your submission(s) online, visit:

  • Submit three (3) samples of your product along with a copy of your contest entry form and drop off or mail to the Maui Chamber of Commerce between Fri., October 18 to Weds., October 23, 2019. Refer to Maui Chamber of Commerce’s office hours below.

  • For fresh products or products that must be refrigerated, please deliver to the Maui Chamber of Commerce on Thur., October 24, between 8 am-11 am. No products will be accepted after 11 am.

  • Judging will take place on Thur., October 24, starting at 11 am.


    The Maui Chamber of Commerce is located in the Cameron Center, 95 Mahalani Street #22a, Wailuku, HI 96793.

    Office hours are Mon.-Fri., 8 am - 4:30 pm.


JUDGING CRITERIA

  • • The contest’s judging panel will be made up of food industry professionals.

  • Food products will be judged based on the following criteria:

    • Flavor/Taste

    • Appearance

    • Originality (including best use of Hawaii-sourced ingredients)

    • Packaging (design & creativity)

    • Marketability

    • Overall impression


WINNER’S PRIZE PACKAGE

  • Winner will be announced during the Hawaiian Airlines Made in Maui County Festival on November 1& 2, 2019 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, and promoted via social media posts and a news release.

  • The winning product will be recognized and promoted as the Hawaiian Airlines Made in Maui County Festival 2109 Best New Food Product contest winner in Minit Stop’s eight (8) Maui stores.

  • $500 certificate redeemable for consulting services offered by Maui Food Technology Center.

  • One (1) Maui Chamber of Commerce membership ($400 value).

  • Company and the winning product will receive editorial mention in a print publication.

  • Winner will receive a plaque and an official (digital) seal as the 2019 Hawaiian Airlines Made in Maui County Festival Best New Food Product contest winner.
